What have we run in Taitung?
Taken from our own posts at the time. Student numbers are given where we recorded them.
- 13 June 2025 Fengtian Elementary School 豐田國小 and Arise Church 興起教會, the first teaching day of a week-long FLL trip.
- 14 June 2025 Fengtian Elementary School 豐田國小 and Taitung Full Gospel Church 台東純福音教會. The children also picked up English vocabulary from that season’s underwater theme.
- 15 June 2025 Duxing Presbyterian Church 都興長老教會 and Wenquan Presbyterian Church 溫泉長老教會.
- 16 June 2025 Donghe Elementary School 東河國小 and Ziyou Chenggong Bread of Life Church 自由成功靈糧堂.
- 17 to 18 June 2025 A two-day Train the Trainer camp at Taitung Full Gospel Church 台東純福音教會, teaching pastors, volunteers and high school students to run SPIKE Prime and FLL themselves. By the second day some were designing their own robots.
- 19 June 2025 YongLin Hope Elementary School 永齡希望小學, where Sophie Hsu and Sandy Guo presented the program.

Why do we teach in churches?
In Taitung we work with the 1919 after-school program run by the Chinese Christian Relief Association. Through a network of more than 168 churches and community centers it looks after children whose parents are away, working long hours or otherwise unable to care for them: a safe place, help with schoolwork and a meal. Teaching robotics inside centers the children already trust is how we reach them, and through the program we have mentored more than 810 children in FLL.
The same partnership is why the pastor training camp matters as much as the sessions themselves. More than forty pastors and teachers, from over twenty churches and schools, have been through it, and we keep supporting them through office hours every other week.
We’re so grateful you came. Otherwise, we wouldn’t know where in Taitung our children could ever have this opportunity.
When we asked them what they wanted to do in the future, some began saying: I want to be a nurse. I want to be a doctor. They were starting to imagine something new for themselves. Before, they would say, I don’t know.
